There is a city public WiFi network covering some of the city I live in. The signal in my area is poor and i have to keep a network adapter in the window (connected by a long usb cable).

Would like to start a wifi in my area, been looking at different routers and antennas and not too sure about then.
If I have an ipod touch, and am about a mile away from a wifi hotspot, can I access the internet with that hotspot?
