ePoint HotSpot
ePoint HotSpot is a free, open source firmware for wireless routers based on OpenWRT with some ePointy extensions an ePoint-branded UI theme. It is distributed as a stand-alone flashable firmware-image, as a set of extension packages for OpenWRT, pre-installed on wireless routers and, of course, in source code.
It is aimed primarily at
- catering businesses
- hotels and hostels
- internet cafés and
- medium-sized communities (e.g. residential co-ops) wishing to share their internet connection on a fair basis.
The primary target hardware is WRT54GL by Linksys.
Short Specification
The firmware provides two web-interfaces: a customer-facing and an operator-facing one. The latter can be used to set prices, a greeting message and to check and retrieve payment.
The customer-facing interface is brought up whenever an unauthorized client attempts to access a web page. It provides an html form for entering payment and, when paid, redirect the user to the web page that was originally requested.
